True trav1John Travolta is defending Scientology against HBO's new documentary about the highly controversial religion. During an interview with Tampa Bay Times, Travolta denounces the claims made in Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, which suggest physical and mental abuse take place in the church in order to blackmail members into staying. "I haven't experienced anything that the hearsay has [claimed], so why would I communicate something that wasn't true for me?" Travolta said about the documentary. "It wouldn't make sense, nor would it for Tom [Cruise], I imagine," the actor told the Times over theories that imply John has only stayed in the church due to fear of being blackmailed. "I've been so happy with my [Scientology] experience in the last 40 years that I really don't have anything to say that would shed light on [a documentary] so decidedly negative." Travolta says he "wouldn't have made it" without them [the church]. "I've been brought through storms that were insurmountable, and [Scientology has] been so beautiful for me, that I can't even imagine attacking it," he said. "So, why would I even approach a negative perspective? That would be a crime to me, personally, to do that."
