John Winkler, a production assistant for Comedy Central’s Tosh.O was accidentally shot and killed in West Hollywood, CA on Monday, and the network and show host Daniel Tosh are sending their condolences.
In a statement provided exclusively to RumorFix, Tosh.O and team say, “Comedy Central and ‘Tosh.0’ extend their deepest condolences to the family of John Winkler. We only had the privilege of working with him for a short while and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends during this tragic time.”
Winkler died when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies mistook him for a murderer and shot him three times.
A 911 caller told police a man was threatening people with a butcher knife at an apartment on Palm Avenue, so when police arrived they opened fire at a bloody man rushing out of the WeHo apartment. But the man they shot was not the killer, it was Winkler, who was fleeing hostage.
The 30-year-old man was an aspiring TV producer and moved out to Los Angeles only six months ago.
Our prayers got out to Winkler’s family and friends at this time.
