Philip Seymour Hoffman attended the premiere of 'Flawless" at the Little Theatre

Hollywood has taken to Twitter to pay their respects to Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman.

The talented actor was tragically found dead at his Manhattan apartment in New York of a suspected overdose on Sunday afternoon; he was only 46.

And the stars went social to pay their condolences.

Mandy Moore wrote: “Goodness. I never met Philip Seymour Hoffman but he sure was one of the greats. Condolences to his loved ones and all who admired his art.”

Shannon Doherty tweeted: “RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman. What a talented man gone too soon.”

Shannon Elizabeth was left upset by the actor’s sudden passing, she wrote: “This is so sad& huge loss for Hollywood. My prayers go out to his family & friends. May he rest in peace.”

Singer John Legend also paid tribute to the talented star by writing: “Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of the greatest actors of our time. Really terrible news today.”

While Ricki Lake wrote: “RIP #PhilipSeymourHoffman. What a senseless and terrible loss.”

Jenny McCarthy posted: “RIP Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Prayers to his family.”

British comic Ricky Gervais wrote: “Sometimes, life Sharts.”

Jim Carrey, was also obviously upset by today’s tragic news, when he wrote: “Dear Philip, a beautiful beautiful soul. For the most sensitive among us the noise can be too much. Bless your heart.”

And superstar Cher opened-up about her feelings via social media by tweeting: “Devastated. About Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Death. He was an Actors Actor! Life Seems 2B Like The Breath, We Use 2 Blow The Candles Out.”

While Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul, who worked with Hoffman on Mission Impossible III back in 2006, wrote: “We lost one of the greats today. Philip Seymour Hoffman RIP. You will be missed always and forever.”

Following his passing Hoffman’s family released a statement saying: “We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support.”
