Ellen DeGeneres isn’t usually a tabloid target. The sunny host has one of the top talk shows on TV and is happily married to Portia De Rossi. But after she found herself the subject of a tabloid story recently, she found the need to address the topic directly and did so in the opening monologue of her show Wednesday.
She started by telling the audience that she was in a hair salon recently and noticed a picture of herself and Portia on a tabloid cover and told the audience “so, it caught my eye because Portia and I were in the top right hand corner. And I thought, ‘Oh that’s so sweet, they’re honoring us.’ But then I read the headline underneath. And it said: “Ellen and Portia Marriage Crumbles.” And I was like, “Oh, what happened? They seemed so happy.” And then I was like, “Wait, I’m Ellen.” And I should know if that was happening.”
“I debated whether or not to open it because I really don’t like letting that energy in so I don’t and then I was like I just want to see it. So I get the magazine and I’m flipping though and there’s one page torn out, the only page ripped out was my story. I’ll never know what’s tearing my marriage apart. I don’t know what’s happening.”
“It’s so ridiculous to me. There’s not one ounce of truth to any of it. I’m very happily married”
