Oprah Winfrey and Julia Roberts have been close friends for years. But now they’re going to be competitors for a coveted acting award.
Both are up for Best Supporting Actress for the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which were announced Wednesday morning.
Roberts stars as the beleaguered daughter of a cancer stricken mom played by Meryl Streep in the upcoming August: Osage County. Oprah starred in last summer’s The Butler.
But the pals might not have to fight it out for the award. Frontrunners in that category so far this awards season - Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle and Lupita Nyong’o in 12 Years A Slave – are also in the running in their category.
The Screen Actors Guild Awards will air live on Saturday January 18 on TNT.
