MSNBC's Thomas Roberts, who is openly gay, has arrived in Russia and he is on a fearless crusade to report on the country that has anti-gay laws.

The anchorman, who married his longtime partner Patrick Abner last year, brought his husband to the overseas assignment as well.

Besides interviewing a Russia reporter who was fired for being gay, Roberts is also hosting the Miss Universe pageant this weekend.

And, ironically, his reason for taking the assignment is exactly the same reason that Bravo's Andy Cohen turned it down -- because of the the country's anti-gay laws.

The laws forbid spreading "propaganda about non-traditional sexual orientations among minors."

On MSNBC Wednesday, Roberts reported, "It's really a taboo subject here in Russia to bring up the fact that these propaganda laws even exist [and] to discuss that there is a distinction between the classes and right now, because of the anti-propaganda laws it does make the LGBT community a second class citizen."
