Lady Gaga is defending fellow pop star Katy Perry after her geisha-inspired performance at the American Music Awards.
Katy, who is rarely controversial, is being criticized for her outfit while singing her new single,”Unconditionally.” She’s accused of being culturally inappropriate and stereotyping.
Gaga was in the audience during the number, but she didn’t think it was racist at all.
“Maybe it’s because ‘Unconditionally’ means you’re supposed to love no matter what and geishas are paid?” she asked Carson Daly on LA’s AMP Radio Monday. ”I think people are generally too sensitive and they should just leave her be, but you know, I’m not really the person to ask.”
