Oscar winner Halle Berry is leaving the big screen to star in a weekly network TV series.
The 47-year-old actress has been tapped to star in the drama Extant, which will on CBS next summer. She’ll still be looking for film scripts as the show will only tape over a five month period. CBS has ordered 13 episodes of the show.
The network described the Steven Spielberg produced series as “a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut (Berry) trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. The character’s experiences lead to events that ultimately change the course of human history.”
It will be the first time Berry has worked on a weekly TV show. But the roles for lead actresses these days are far more plentiful and interesting on television than on the silver screen.
Halle’s expecting a baby boy any day now with husband Olivier Martinez so the steady work of a TV series should give her plenty of bonding time with her new son. She already has a five-year-old daughter Nahla.
