Was Twilight star Robert Pattinson the first choice of author E.L. James to play Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of her mega best-seller Fifty Shades of Grey?
That would be a “yes” according to her fellow author and close friend Bret Easton Ellis.
After she revealed Monday that Charlie Hunnam had landed the role, Ellis took to his Twitter to reveal some insight into the casting process.
“E.L. James and I were at Rob Pattinson’s house when she admitted that Rob was first choice for Christian. Ian Somerhalder was never in running.”
“Talked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for Christian was Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer was never in the running.”
Both White Collar star Bomer and Vampire Diaries actor Sommerhalder were fan favorites for the role of Christian. So much so that fan fury over Bomer not getting the role caused his name to trend on Twitter after Hunnam’s casting news was revealed.
