Howard Stern is on quite a roll this week. First he got notoriously private actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt to confess he has a secret girlfriend. And now he’s had Michael J. Fox reveal on his radio show that he turned to drinking to cope with his Parkinson’s diagnosis back in 1991.
“My first reaction to it was to start drinking heavily,” he told Stern on his Sirius XM show Wednesday. “I used to drink to party, but now I was drinking alone and … every day.”
“Once I did that it was then about a year of like a knife fight in a closet, where I just didn’t have my tools to deal with it,” he adds.
The 52-year-old actor said that it was his wife of 25 years Tracy Pollan who helped pull him back form the edge. He explained that she looked at him one day and said, “is this what you want?”
After attending AA meetings and going to therapy, things improved for the star. “Eventually, things got pretty great,” he says. The funny man’s new NBC comedy premieres Thursday night.
