An emergency hearing just ended in Atlanta where Usher and his ex-wife Tameka Foster Raymond werein a custody war following Monday’s near drowning of their son Usher V. And, the judge ruled Usher will retain custody of his children.
Tameka requested the hearing earlier this week after the boy was caught in the drain of a pool while under the care of Usher’s aunt, Rena Oden. While Rena did attempt to free the child from the drain, two workers inside Usher’s house sprang into action and got little Usher out of the pool and administered CPR. The boy was rushed to the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery.
Raymond’s court filing claims the five-year-old “suffered a near-death accident” while left unsupervised at Usher’s home. She was seeking temporary primary custody of the former couple’s two children.
Tameka’s lawyers worked hard to claim Oden is not qualified to care for the kids. But at the same time admitted she uses Oden as a caregiver for the kids as well.
In testimony, Oden admitted Usher’s other son was so upset about Usher V that he tried to jump in the water to save him. And Oden admitted she is not certified in CPR, but learned it years ago from her mother who is a registered nurse.
Usher and Tameka got married in 2007 and divorced two years later. They went through a lengthy child custody battle over Usher V and there other son, four-year-old Naviyd. Usher was awarded primary custody of the boys last year.
