Jimmy Fallon surprised the world with the news of his daughter’s birth on July 23, mainly because no one knew he and his wife Nancy Juvonen were expecting a baby.
Fallon has revealed the couple used a surrogate to carry daughter Winnie Rose after he and his wife tried unsuccessfully for years to conceive. The 38-year-old Late Night host wed his 46-year-old wife back in 2007.
In a taped interview with The Today Show‘s Savannah Guthrie, Fallon admitted “‘My wife and I had been trying a while to have a baby. We tried a bunch of things – so we had a surrogate” and said that most of his colleagues didn’t know he was going to be a dad until the announcement of Winnie’s birth.
“We said, ‘We’re not going to tell anybody'” Fallon said. ‘It’d be just more fun if it’s just private between me and my wife. And then we get to introduce her to everybody.”
The interview will air on the Today Show next week.
