Andy Cohen is as synonymous with beauty pageants as Donald Trump is with money.
But this year, the Bravo exec and TV star turned down a gig to co-host the 2013 Miss Universe pageant that takes place in Moscow, Russia on November 9.
He tells E!’s Giuliana Rancic that he turned it down because he’s concerned for his safety.
“The law is that anyone under suspicion of homosexuality can be arrested,” he said, adding he “didn’t feel right as a gay man stepping foot into Russia.”
A month ago, the government implemented a new law banning “propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations around minors” bars the public discussion of gay rights and relationships anywhere children might hear it. The law is being condemned all around the world and people are calling for a U.S. boycott of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia.
