Actors who worked with Cory Monteith on Glee are shocked by the 31-year-old’s sudden death in Canada.
“We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate,” his rep said in a statement. “We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.”
Glee’s executive producers also released a statement saying, “We are deeply saddened by this tragic news. Cory was an exceptional talent and an even more exceptional person. He was a true joy to work with and we will all miss him tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”
His TV buddy and real-life friend Mark Salling, who plays Puck, simply tweeted, “no.” He later deleted that tweet and put up this one: “going through a million memories and emotions today. ill love you always Brother Cory.”
Cory’s real life girlfriend Lea Michele has asked for her privacy.
Igbal Theba, who plays Principal Figgins, wrote, “OMG!! My Cory …” Damian McGinty, who is the Irish guy who won the Glee Project, said his first scene on Glee was with Cory, “The nicest guy I’ve met. Can’t believe it.”
Coach Beiste, who is the character brought to life by Dot Marie Jones, wrote:
“I HAVE NO WORDS! MY HEART IS BROKEN CORY WAS NOT ONLY A HELL OF A FRIEND HE WAS ONE AMAZING MEN THAT I WILL HOLD CLOSE TO MY HEART FOREVER. I AM BLESSED TO HAVE WORKED WITH HIM AND LOVE HIM SO MUCH! MY HEART IS WITH HID FAMILY AND OUR WHOLE GLEE FAMILY! I LOVE YOU ALL!”
Lauren Potter, who plays Becky, was shocked by the news, “I am totally heartbroken right now. I love Cory so much this hurts my heart. I hope my #glee family is ok right now. I love them all.”
NeNe Leakes, who plays Coach Roz, wrote, “I hate 2 see such a great young actor leave us so soon! RIP
@corymonteith my prayers r wit u”
Guest stars Kristin Chenoweth and Cheyenne Jackson also paid their respects. Kristin wrote, “RIP CoryMontieth. You will be loved. Always” and Cheyenne describe the young actor as “talented, funny and absolutely kindhearted. We lost a gentleman. RIP.”
