Chinga Chang Records CEO Dan Herman tells RumorFix that he covered the damages Amanda Bynes did to a woman's home, because he didn't want her sued.

Dan tells us, he's already paid $300 and it could cost a total of $1,000 to get Bonnie Bratten's driveway back to normal.

Either Dan is looking for publicity or really cares about the troubled star, who is in a psychiatric ward in Ventura County undergoing evaluation.

In June, Dan told us he had a deal with Amanda to do a rap record, but she dissed him on Twitter and alluded to the fact that she was working with Waka Flocka Flame, so he pulled his offer.

Then he came back a few weeks ago and offered a $200,000 advance -- she wrote about it  on her Vanity Fair column and said that he gave her an advance to do a spoken word album of John Asbery works. Her column caught everyone off guard even John's people who asked Dan, "Is this a joke?"

So, we've got to ask -- why would Dan help her again?
