BC Coroner: Cory Monteith’s Death Not Related To Powerful Pain Killer

Posted on July 17th, 2013 at 2:03 pm

cory11The coroner's office in British Columbia has stepped forward to quash rumors around the web that Cory Monteith might have been under the influence of the powerful painkiller fentanyl at the time he died.

The speculation was swirling Monday after the 31-year-old Glee star's body was found over the weekend in a Vancouver hotel room.  Some sites speculated his death might have been connected to using fentanyl, a popular additive to heroin. The deadly mix has reportedly already caused at least 23 deaths in Vancouver just this year.

But this rumor is unequivocally fixed.

The BC Coroners Service "would like to reiterate that Mr. Monteith died of a mixed-drug toxicity, involving heroin and alcohol. Toxicology results did not indicate any presence of the drug fentanyl."
