The lead characters haven’t even been cast for the upcoming film adaptation of E L James’ erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey but the studio producing the picture already has set a release date.
Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced Thursday that the much-anticipated flick will hit theaters on August 1, 2014. The studio wants it ready in time for next summer, but with an August release date it should come after most of the major summer popcorn flicks have come out giving it easier competition at the box office.
Sam Taylor-Johnson has been hired to direct the steamy flick, about student Anastasia Steele and her erotic relationship with controlling entrepreneur Christian Grey. Neither of the roles has been cast but rumors are swirling wildly about which lucky young actor and actress will score the coveted roles, but Robert Pattinson is rumored as a frontrunner.
But with today’s release date announcement, the casting process will have to step up fast, as the film doesn’t even have a start date for production to begin. But in the odd world of Hollywood, it already has a release date for just over a year away.
We hope they have a speedy film shoot!
