Singer Lauryn Hill is headed to federal prison.
The Grammy winner was sentenced in federal court to three months in prison for failing to pay taxes on about $1 million in earnings. She pleaded guilty in the case back in 2012 but received her sentence in a New Jersey courtroom Monday.
It’s not clear when the former Fugees member will report to prison. Once she does complete her stint in a federal facility she will still be required to do an additional three months of home confinement.
Her attorney Nathan Hochman had been arguing for probation for Hill. The 37-year-old mother of six could have faced up to three years in prison.
