Elton John and Rod Stewart have had a friendly rivalry for decades, but on Friday night, Elton wanted to bury the hatchet.
The fierce competitiveness between the superstars is documented in Rod’s book, Rod Stewart: The Autobiography.
Years ago, Rod had massive balloons at an arena to mark the fact he was doing his concerts there and Elton hired a sniper to shoot them down. Then there was the time when Rod put up a huge banner for his “Blondes Have More Fun Tour” and Elton put a banner on a building across the street that said, “But Brunettes Make More Money.”
The two men both attended the Race To Erase MS event put on by Nancy Davis at the Hyatt Regency in Century City Friday night. Elton performed and later apologized to Rod from the stage saying although they’ve had their differences, he still loves Rod.
But, the truce didn’t last for long. The pop stars sat next to each other during the live auction for an Aston Martin. True to form– the men tried to outbid each other. In the end, they both lost and another high rolling guest got the car for $230,000.
