Jay-Z is addressing critics of his recent trip to Cuba in a new song called “Open Letter.”
The hip-hop star and his wife, Grammy Award-winning singer Beyoncé, have come under fire for visiting Cuba last week for their fifth wedding anniversary, despite strict U.S. travel restrictions to the communist island. The couple’s headline-making Cuban jaunt has angered several politicians, who have questioned how the two managed to get permission to visit the country.
Although the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control has since revealed that “hip-hop’s first family” was allowed to travel to Cuba “pursuant to an educational exchange trip organized by a group,” Jay is still taking aim at their detractors in “Open Letter.”
Saying in the song that “politicians never did s**t for me … except lie to me, distort history,” Jay even mentioned his friend, President Obama in the song, singing “Obama said chill ‘You gonna get me impeached’ … We don’t need this s**t anyway chill with me on the beach.'” The hip-hop mogul may have opened a can of worms with that last line, so we’re sure this situation is far from over.
