Washington Wizards center Jason Collins has come out of the closet in a new interview with Sports Illustrated!

The announcement makes him the first openly gay athlete playing in any major American sport.  The 34 year-old NBA vet expressed that the recent tragedy in Boston convinced him to come out now. Collins says, “Things can change in an instant, so why not live truthfully?”

Many celebs are taking to Twitter as they rally around his decision.

    1. be strong says:

Wow! Lets see how other players deal with this in the locker room. Collins you have the right to be happy and we wish you the best of luck.

    2. strategy says:

Jason only came out because he’s at the end of his career/contract. By coming out a team would have to be crazy not to resign him because the first thing he’s going to say is “they didnt resign me because I’m gay”. Then he’ll sue. Jason were glad your coming but was it for the right reason or was it pure strategy to renew your contract.
