Jay-Z and Beyonce are not exactly in trouble just yet, but lawmakers are asking questions and demanding answers to determine if the famous power couple violated U.S. policy when they visited Cuba for their anniversary last week.
U.S. tourists are not allowed to visit the communist country unless they are there on official business or educational reasons and granted the appropriate visas by the U.S. government. A decades-old U.S. trade embargo is intended to prevent Americans from contributing to the Cuban economy.
RumorFix has obtained a letter sent by two Republican congressmen from Florida to the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. The letter requests information regarding Jay-Z and Beyonce’s “vacation” and any special permissions which may have been given.
Many consider the trade embargo outdated, but in South Florida these issues are taken seriously by the many Cuban refugees who were oppressed by Fidel Castro.
President Obama as been slowly moving toward a more relaxed relationship with Cuba … however, the law is the law and his famous friends might have some explaining to do, IF they broke it!
