Mindy McCready’s apparent suicide is just one in a string of tragic deaths connected to Celebrity Rehab.

The country star, who appeared on the VH1 show in 2009 because of her addiction to pills and alcohol, often turned to Dr. Drew Pinksy long after she left the show. But her demons proved too great.

Here are four other Celeb Rehab stars who have died:

  • Mike Starr of Alice in Chains died in 2011 at the age of 44 due to a prescription drug overdose. (He starred on Season Three with Mindy)
  • Joey Kovar of Real World was pronounced dead in August 2012 at the age of 29 because of an opiate intoxication. (He also starred on Season Three with Mindy)
  • Taxi’s Jeff Conaway died at the age of 60 of a drug overdose sepsis, pneumonia and encephalopathy.
  • Police brutality victim Rodney King passed away at the age of 47 of “accidental drowning” that may have been caused by drug use.

Dr. Drew tells RumorFix he reached out to Mindy after he found out that her boyfriend apparently committed suicide. “Although she was fearful of stigma and ridicule she agreed with me that she needed to make her health and safety a priority.  Unfortunately it seems that Mindy did not sustain her treatment.”

Celebrity Rehab ended its run in 2011. Since then Dr. Drew has retooled the show and now does Rehab with Dr. Drew, which does not include stars.

It’s not a “Celebrity Rehab” curse. It’s an “I’m addicted to drugs and can’t control my urges” curse. Don’t blame the show, GOOD GOD, anything for ratings with these gossip websites!

You forgot Jani Lane. Unfortunately, addicts usually die if they don’t get away from the drugs. It’s the curse of addiction, not of a show.
