Conrad Bain, who played Phillip Drummond in Diff’rent Strokes, died Monday just a few weeks shy of his 90th birthday and co-star Todd Bridges is “deeply saddened.”
Todd, who is the only surviving cast member of the 80s sitcom, tells RumorFix in a statement, “I am deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Conrad as we were looking forward to celebrating his 90th birthday next month.”
The 47-year-old actor had kept in contact with Conrad over the years and his rep tells us they just spoke last week and “everything seemed fine.”
Conrad was described as the “glue’ of the Diff’rent Strokes cast. “In addition to being a positive and supportive father figure both on and off screen, Conrad was well-loved and made going to work each day enjoyable for all of us,” Todd said. “He will be missed, but never forgotten.
Conrad died of natural causes in his hometown of Livermore, Calif., according to his daughter, Jennifer Bain.
