Teenage pop star Justin Bieber has just issued a statement following the death of a paparazzo who died while photographing the singer’s car. Bieber took the photographer’s death as an opportunity to lobby for some sort of paparazzi legislation, writing:

“Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.”

The photographer was killed on Tuesday night photographing a car that he believed Justin Bieber was in. Police say the man was struck by a car as he returned to his own ride.
