R&B singer Chris Brown has abandoned his Instragram followers after the alleged assault of Frank Ocean outside of a LA studio on Sunday night. Before shutting down his account, he directed fans to his Mechanical Dummy website where he offered up an explanation for shutting down the account.

“Elevate yourself above the negative, and if it doesn’t work…move on! Respect myself and my fans enough to want to be great. But… social media takes away the essence of why we are even special or icons. So with that, I’m detaching myself from that world.”

One of the last images Brown shared with his followers was a painting of Jesus Christ that he created. The troubled star likened himself to the crucified religious figure in the photograph’s caption.

And while Brown’s Instagram account is down, it should be noted that he has also shut down his Twitter account in the past only to reactivate it.
