The Twitterspere reveals that America is upset at Today’s Matt Lauer for the way he treated Hollywood sweetheart Anne Hathaway on Thursday.
“We’ve seen a lot of you lately,” Lauer joked as he started the interview with the star of Les Miserables.
Matt was obviously making a reference to a wardrobe malfunction Anne had on Monday night at the premiere of her movie when she hopped out of her car and accidentally flashed photographers while not wearing underwear.
“I’d be happy to stay home,” an embarrassed Anne said, but obviously she has to promote her film.
“It was obviously an unfortunate incident,” she continued. “It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment and rather than delete it — and do the decent thing — sells it. And I’m sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to ‘Les Mis, that’s what my character is, she is someone who is forced to sell sex to benefit her child because she has nothing and there’s no social safety net.”
Matt’s questioning raised a furor with her fans — here’s a sample:
“Props to Anne Hathaway for standing up to Matt Lauer and his inappropriate line of questioning.”
“Who treats Anne Hathaway like that??? She’s a lady. She [should have] slapped Matt Lauer…”
“@MLauer Is there an Emmy category 4 “Best Smackdown of An Idiot Morning Show Host?” If so, I nominate Anne Hathaway,”
“Did you ask him about his private parts too? RT @MLauer: Matt Damon joins us live this morning.”
“When Matt Lauer asked Anne Hathaway about the vag photos, she should have responded “So, I heard you had Ann Curry fired!”
