Ariel Winter’s mom, Chrystal Workman, filed a lawsuit in LA court on Monday that could test Freedom of Speech for people who comment on stories on the Internet, RumorFix is reporting exclusively.
Workman, who is engaged in a bitter custody battle over Ariel with her oldest daughter, Shanelle Gray, filed suit against Mathew Borlenghi, who happens to work for Shanelle.
The 14-year-old Modern Family star is in the custody of Shanelle until a hearing on Wednesday. But on Monday, Chrystal showed some firepower by suing Mathew for a comment he made on the LA Times website regarding an article about Ariel taken away from Chrystal because of physical and mental abuse allegations. The article states that Chrystal had triggered an investigation into whether Ariel had unlawful sex with an 18-year-old.
Mathew, who works for Shanelle’s company, Gray Studios, wrote: “The mother is grasping and clawing to find a way not to lose her money-maker, and hide the fact that she is an abusive monster.”
Chrystal’s attorneys flooded the lawsuit with 22 declarations in support of Chystal and saying they never witnessed any abuse.
Chrystal is suing for defamation and false light and is asking for a jury trial.
