Alex McCord Says Housewives Success: Inciting Women To Attack

Posted on October 2nd, 2012 at 12:29 pm

Alex McCord, our RumorFix Real Housewives of New York City correspondent, gives her take on Monday night’s “screaming and yelling” season finale and starts off with Aviva Drescher’s dad, George Teichner, complaining about getting kicked out of Ramona Singer’s charity event.

On the show, George says,”Only animals attack humans” and Alex responds with: “Inciting women to attack one another has become the basis for the Housewives franchise.”

She goes on to say that Aviva and her dad made a rookie mistake in thinking no one would ever throw anyone out of a Housewives party.

“In Housewives-land the party hasn’t started until someone is either thrown out or walks out. It’s just the way it is,” Alex says on her popular video blog.

Alex loved that Heather Thomson employed Aviva to walk in her Yummy Tummy benefit fashion show, modeling lingerie with her prosthetic leg. However, Alex says Aviva, “changing the runway look after you have been specifically been told not to,” definitely was not a winning approach.

Alex goes on to talk about Sonja Morgan’s “spectacularly selfish timing” at Heather’s fashion show by walking up to the photographer mid-show to demand copies of the photos from her toaster oven fashion shoot.

Alex says Sonja was “employing another age-old Housewives technique, ‘If you see a chance take it’!” Bad timing, bad move Sonja. And Ramona — being the loyal friend that she is –  just could not pass up a chance to get in on the action and their timing was “incredibly inappropriate.”

Next Monday RHONY will have their reunion special and be sure to check out the premiere of Alex and Simon Van Kempen on Couples Therapy airing this Wednesday, October 3 on VH-1.

Hi Alex, thank you again for your insight and keep up the good work.  I am hoping you will one day do the video blog for RumorFix on all the Housewive Shows.   Breaking it down:
George is horrible and why doesn’t he go back to the old age rest home.  Aviva is horrible and gets worse every week, their is nothing redeemable about Aviva she needs to go.  Aviva is showing how ugly handicapped people can be, and she is the ultimate in UGLY.   Still love Ramona, she is terrific AND she and Sonja are the reasons I watch the show.   LuMann needs to retire and go away, I dont’ care where she goes just go away.    Carol, she is nice and I think she does get Ramona and does enjoy Ramona.   Heather is a mixed gig I am beginning to kind of like her, but she needs to warm up to Ramona and Sonja then I would like her much better.

      • Jillian

Happy Happy Birthday Alex, can’t wait to see what you have on Groupon and looking foward to watching you and Simon in  “Couples Therapy”.

      • Linda

“how ugly handicapped people can be” – shame on you.

        • Jillian

Why shame on me, Aviva is UGLY (as a person) and this is what I am talking about not her physical handicap.   Aviva is showing us how UGLY handicapped people can be.

          • Linda

Then it is unnecessary to include the word “handicapped” in your statement.  And you did it again in your reply.  Why not “how UGLY people can be?”   I agree w/ you about her behavior.

          • Dasgma

Saying that is like saying someone is showing us how ugly Hispanic people can be, or old people, or whatever. Why classify people that way….behavior is ugly whether it is someone who happens to have a handicap or not.

          • Little Lulu

Jillian, all handicapped people are not like that horrible woman! My neice lost her leg a year or so ago, and the year prior to that she lost her only son in a car accident…..and she makes Adiva look like a complete idiot. Adiva is just a spoiled brat, and has been all her life with all those phobias she claims to have. She is a disgrace to handicapped people and I hope she doesn’t benefit financially from her ‘chairity’ work she does! Adiva and that perverted father of hers are something else. I know this is a disgusting thing to say, but imo, she and her father have a very sick relationship.By the sick things he says around her, and then saying his new ‘friend’ reminded him of her just blows my mind…that is just sick. I can’t stand either one of them…..dump their ass and bring back Alex and Simon!

            • Judyonwheels

               BRING BACK SIMON & ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • Cf782

I agree with Linda!!  This is truly a very cruel thing to “generalize that handicapped people are ugly”. Jillian  –very inappropriate and largely vapid. Sort of like Ramona. I don’t think that Aviva is deserving of all of this hate. Get over it. The producers of this show knew she came into this with phobias and used it. Before she left, she let all of them know she was bringing her husband (so what).  Their reaction to her arrival was very bizarre and narcissistic.

    • Ci112

Love your comments Alex- but I miss you calling Luann out for having this episodes and seasons worst, not to say dullest, storyline. I really wonder whether she will be booted next year, because she will probably not add to the reunion- like always she is likely to shy from confrontations. It is like she has no balls anymore, maybe because she has no real allies anymore.
Looking back I actually had hoped for a season where Ramona and Luann really could shoot it out from the gut. But also Ramona disappoints by only focusing on one target at the time- first Heather then Aviva.

I hope you would give a season wrap up about your take on the womens “accomplishments” during this seasons.
the reason I particularly wish to hear from you know, is because I want to see how your point of view stands next to Bravos and Andy Cohens. Before you get the results on the renionshows.

      Best Birthday Wishes

      • Jillian

I heard LuAnn calls Carol out about talking behind her back, you can call it the Real Houswives of New York Designer Gate.  You can and can’t borrow dresses from the one  of the designers for the First Lady, aka Carols Friend.

        • inyourtkitchen

Haha well I can’t really decide on the whole dress-mess. But I actually liked that even Luann wasn’t above, working designers like other celebrities do- while other more powerfull celebrities just makes their interns or assistents do their dirtywork.
But I am truly disappointed in Luann, not only bc her and Ramona is payed the big bucks to bring home the drama. But she would be much more Countess like if she had allies I feel.
Actually I had hoped Alex would have joined the cast with ramona, sonja and luann. cause, even though she is much better friends with ramona and sonja, alex would always be third wheel on the Ramania-tandem. and since Luann doesn’t connect with just any housewife it appears, and definitely not princesses- she might consider Alex’s anciennity on the show, and maybe they could have made a nasty duo. Not that Alex likes the countess. but alex moves on and is ready to give almost anybody a second chance I feel.

But don’t you agree that Alex could make an extra video where she did a season wrap up and highlights before the reuonion starts next week- or you’d  prefer to have if after we know who got slayed?

      • http://twitter.com/mccordalex Alex McCord

Duly noted — I’m taking requests for the wrap up discussion at the end of the reunions!

    • Sugarcat

Love these recaps, Alex, and I’m looking forward to seeing what it is you’re selling through Groupon. Is it a fluffy towel, maybe? A thick, terry spa robe?

      • Butter face

Maybe it’s a stuffed Simon doll

Happy Birthday!   Have a beautiful day.

    • NRO

I know the point of this blog was to fill us in on the behind -the -scenes stuff, however, I would like to hear more of your opinion about the content of the show, Alex. I was surprised you kind of “fluffed” over Aviva’s viscous, relentless attacks on Ramona, especially at that last party.  It was difficult to watch her escalate, week after week. Last year I told myself, if they don’t get rid of Kelly, I will not watch the show anymore. I feel even more so about Aviva. It is no longer entertaining to watch such a sick, angry person.

I found Aviva’s comment, “I believe you are 56″ to Ramona especially appalling. Ageism in unbecoming and low-class, and frankly, Aviva, as someone 15 years younger, you look just as “old” (good?) as Ramona.

    • http://twitter.com/DJLoopsFruit The Dizziest Queen!!

Gee Jillian that is a bit harsh dont you think,Aviva is hardly ugly, what she is ,is a person who thought she had a friend (ramona) and she thought the said friend betrayed thier friendship.as for george why should he go to an old folks home ?
as for Sonja no one seems to ever take her to task but talking about how good avivas ex hubby was in the sack over and over is just plain tacky and Ramona is an enabler id rather see Romona interact with her daughter then watching her get blind drunk and out and out rude

      • Goergie Porgie

I am not Jillian, but I believe she meant Aviva exhibited ugly behavior.  I also think Jillian was implying that Aviva uses her disability in order to manipulate others,  She guilts people into getting her own way, just as she is guilting people to feel sorry for George by describing him as an 80 year old man who is helpless while making Ramona out to be a bully.  There are two people responsible for George being escorted out of the charity event–George for acting like a loud mouth, bulllying pest and Aviva for putting her dad in this predicament to begin with.  I am tired of folks thinking of George as a harnless and funny old man,  He’s anything but and I am not sure I would let old gramps babysit my daughters.

        • Jillian

Georgie Porgie, you got what I was laying down with Aviva.    You also nailed George to a “T”, I would also be afraid to leave him alone with my little girls, who knows what would happen.

          • Cf782

You both need to learn about what it takes live as a disabled person.

            • Goergie Porgie

I am disabled, and I don’t use it as a social crutch,  You should be careful what you say to others without knowing their story.

        • Skymmie

That’s how I took the “ugly” comment as well.  Aviva uses it as a crutch, and also uses all these other phobias as ways to make herself the center of attention.  She is just the most unpleasant, shrill, petulant, manipulative, vicious housewife I’ve see so far…

    • http://twitter.com/DJLoopsFruit The Dizziest Queen!!

i hate to admit this but i actually cried at the end of the season finale when Carole was saying how the friendships had fractured and THEN they showed clips of the beginning of the season where all the women looked happy to be meeting each other,it really started out promising i may be alone in prefering when they get along my only complaint was Alex was gone and LuMann was still there

      • Holly Modarelli

Lu Ann was a BIG instigator at St. Bart’s!

    • Anonymous

Ramona and Sonja’s time is up. Can’t stand either of these two shrews. Definitely FF material for me. They are ridiculous. Ramona’s child acts older than her mother and she and Sonja have a very weird co-dependent relationship. Hope they are gone next season.

      • Little Lulu

If Ramona and Sonja are gone, they might as well cancel the show. Those two are the only ones who know how to have fun. This season has been very bad, and if not for those two, what would they even have that would be entertaining?

    • Aussierae

Hi Alex! I have been enjoying your wrap up after each episode. I like your perspective and I like that you give us a glimpse into the “business” end of the HOwives.. Do you think that the newbies really knew what they were getting in to? On Ramona’s loyalty.. She spoke very highly of you and Simon when I went to one of her “PInot Signings” LOL.. I will be tuning in to your Relationship Rehab show!

      • http://twitter.com/mccordalex Alex McCord

Although the newbies should have been better prepared since the show had been airing for years prior, it’s still impossible to describe to anyone what it is truly like.

        • inyourtkitchen

Well actually I don’t agree Alex. I think the newbies seemed well prepared, and all in all did a good job this season.
Though you might be right in you calling them out on rookie mistakes, I think they adapted quite well.
Carole, who seemed a bit boring in her independent clips, actually stayed calm and still added a lot of good moments during the show. though she really was most enjoyable in her interviews.
Heather I thought was a bit boring in the beginning, and had the same non-appeal to me as Cindy Boreshop! But I really got more and more sympathetic to her actions and having seen the entire season, I actually changed my mind and thought, looking back, that it was the right decission to exclude Ramona from the London trip- she mst have done some research there to pull the plug so quick on that invite.
And Aviva… well honestly I don’t care much for her, she seems very self-righteous and intolerant. But she might be the most naive of the new girls in my opinion.

And btw Alex- you are a tease. I can’t wait for the reunion shows, and my guess on the seating would be.

Sonja, Ramona with Luann at the end
          and
Aviva, Heather with Carole at the end

I am glad you had a good birthday, and must be a relief to celebrate it without seeing peoples stupid opinions about it afterwards on tv. I always thought you had something very special.

          • http://twitter.com/mccordalex Alex McCord

I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you. xo

LOL!!!!! “Screamin and Yellin” LOL!!!, that was good Alex!!!

    • Anonymous

I feel like the winners of this season were Heather, Carol and surprisingly Luann.  The other 3 lose for embarrassing themselves the most.

      • Sally Struthers

I don’t know, thought Luann looked rather foolish and pointless during much of the season..  Also, the aforementioned 3 thought that asking Aviva’s dad to leave the charity event was the right thing to do.  He was making a scene and refused to relent in pestering Ramona for an apology.  However, when asked by shrill Aviva if asking George to leave the charity event was the right thing to do, all 3 women said NO!  Way to contradict yourselves, ladies.  They need to be stronger and more steadfast with their opinions and stop acting so damn intimidated by Aviva.  Maybe Ramona is right–they are terrified of the crazy lady.

        • Anonymous

          You may be right,
Sally Struthers.  Also, my perspective may be skewed by the fact that I didn’t watch this season as closely as the past seasons because I am getting bored with Housewives shows in general.  I think you’re right about the ladies trying to pacify Aviva because she is nuts.  They saw how not only does she refuse to let things go with Ramona but she refuses to shut up about it.  I wouldn’t want any part of that either if I were them.  You’re definitely right that none of them were perfect but I think my overall fave this season was Heather then Carol then sort of Luann.  Although, I only think Luann looks good compared to the previous season.

Alex!! Happy Birthday!! I hope you have an amazing birthday week, and that you don’t get the same driver you had on your birthday that missed the turnoff. ;)

Ha!  Thanks — it was great!

        • Megalana

Awesome :) Happy to hear it!!

    • Jane Bunny

Always love your videos. I disagree with you about the number of photos.  I’ve done this kind of work for eons with top of the line clients – international icons.

While we have no idea what Heather and Sonja and the rest of the crew’s agreement was. I have never seen a case when a photographer didn’t show the client dozens of options. Of course, unless he signs over ownership of the photos, he always has complete control over them. But it is never normal to say here are two options: the photo you never wanted and another one. I think that by being so rigid he defeated his purpose in being on this show.

What I do agree with is that Sonja was never going to get isolated product shots or food shots. In my experience a product shot is a different shoot and food photography is a specialty skill that I strongly doubt the photographer had.

The teasers are up on the Bravo site…

    • Jch2378

I have to say Ramona is my favorite!! I can’t take Aviva….I hope she is embarrassed & humiliated, she is such a bully, not. Lady at all!

    • Lauren

Alex, do you have any thoughts on the rumors that the producers set up at the Real Housewives of New Jersey finale? Anything at all? I’m glad New York is not as dark as Jersey. You were always one of my favorites–honest and true to yourself!

      • http://twitter.com/mccordalex Alex McCord

Hey Lauren, I didn’t catch the Jersey finale (bit of a busy week in our house!) but the possibility doesn’t surprise me at all.

    • Boursin

Even my husband commented that he thinks Aviva was totally fixated on Ramona to the point of wondering if one of her mental problems was also OCD. She was like a dog with a bone and would not let it drop. But then seeing her father also gnaw on the same bone, I can see where she gets it from. And they both act like the other is some speshul snowflake that is above reproach. He lost all my respect with his cooch-hounding at the dinner earlier in the season anyway.

For someone that expects high class behavior from others, I didn’t see a lot coming from Aviva.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=529665938 Becky Cook Henson

Happy Birthday Alex!  Hope it was a great one.  What happened to the vicious Countess who attacked you when you were on the show?  Why is LuAnn playing nice all of a sudden? Jill was mean as well.  As I see it, they added Aviva to play both parts of the icy Countess and cruel Jill.  I want to give kudos to Heather for telling Sonja to take her ungrateful a$$ and leave!!  It made me LOVE Heather!  Aviva makes Ramona look normal…and that is a scary statement!

    • Pam Dryburgh

They could of named this episode something like “Fight Club Houswives Style”…wink! Its getting old all of the women and their bickering.  Have the DVR set for this season of Couples Therapy.  I believe also that even couples who get along can use some help along the way.

    • karen1941

October 3, 2012  **Happy Premiere Day” Alex and Simon**.
One question Alex:  How can you be more inappropriate than Ramona, more pretentious than the countess,  more delusional than Kelly, meaner than Jill and mean to Sonja all at the same time?  Be A-diva!

    • Jeff

Aviva is a cookoobird.  Love your recaps Alex!

    • Jan

Happy Birthday! Thanks for the recap.

    • karen1941

When I saw Avery Singer come into Carole’s Ping Pong Benefit with her parents I said a silent, “Oh, God, I hope Mario and Ramona warned her about George’s errent erections.” He clearly thinks incest is funny and rubbing himself against some unfortunate bystander is fair game. Classless louts.

    • karen1941

Funniest line on the show this season, “I tried to join e-harmony but they counldn’t find anyone to match me.”  (Sonja Morgan)  Anyone else have a favorite, funniest line?

I am so happy I found this blog. Thank you Alex for breaking the episode(s) for us. I am thrilled with your behind the scenes knowledge regarding the segments. I look forward to reading your take on the reunions.

    • SRO

Thanks for your take on all things RHONY, Alex! I look forward to your vlog as much as I do the latest installment of the show!

Poor Aviva. She truly is unconscious. To be grieving a trauma from forty years prior as though it had just happened has got to be incredibly painful. As a mother, she cannot realize the damage she is doing to her children, by modeling so much fear for them. That is something she will regret, deeply, when it is much too late to change it. Her fear also makes her blind to how incredibly controlling she is. Her eyelashes are the control indicator:  they start flapping like butterflies when things aren’t going her way, and her temper is starting to kick in. What she doesn’t realize is that she is still SO ANGRY about her injury that she has no control over her temper. You can’t compartmentalize that kind of negative emotion. It spills out over everything.

It would be better for her not to return. It is unhealthy for her, and for her family.
