Tom Cruise is mourning the loss of the man who helped propel him to Hollywood action star.
Tony Scott, who directed Cruise in 1986′s Top Gun and 1990′s Days of Thunder, committed suicide Sunday afternoon by jumping of a bridge in Los Angeles. Reports say that Scott may have been battling inoperable brain cancer.
On Monday, Cruise released the following statement to RumorFix : “Tony was my dear friend and I will really miss him. He was a creative visionary whose mark on film is immeasurable. My deepest sorrow and thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Cruise starred as “Maverick” in Top Gun. The film went on to become that year’s biggest box office hit and helped solidify Cruise’s status as a top movie action hero.
