United States Olympian Ryan Lochte is attempting to do some damage control after his mother suggested that’s he’s a promiscuous lad ravaging the sexually liberal women of the Olympic village.

Earlier this week, Lochte’s mother told USA Today, “[Ryan] goes out on one-night stands. He’s not able to give fully to a relationship because he’s always on the go.”
Ha! Not exactly the most media savvy comment to make, but Lochte knows that and is trying to diffuse the situation. In an interview with E!, he insists that his mother just misspoke. “She meant I go on a lot of dates. She didn’t mean anything negative. She’s new to the whole media thing,” he says.

Ryan’s mom looks pretty hip to us, and we highly doubt she confused one night stands with simple dinner at the local Olive Garden, but we’ll let Ryan spin it.
