RumorFix has talked to cops in Plano, Texas and contrary to media reports on Friday, country music legend Randy Travis was NOT under the influence of alcohol when police arrived to investigate a disturbance call Thursday night.
According to the official police report, Plano Police were called to the Prestonwood Baptist Church Thursday night around 10 p.m. regarding a verbal altercation between an estranged husband and wife. Randy Travis is a friend of the wife and was present at the scene. According to the husband, before police arrived there was some sort of “unwanted physical contact” between Randy and the husband.
Police tell us that it could have been something as simple as a tap on the shoulder and that the citation for it is basically the equivalent of a traffic ticket. It was physical contact that does not cause injury or pain.
Police also confirmed that no one was injured, no one was taken to the hospital, no one was placed under arrest and Randy was not under the influence of alcohol, as published reports suggested.
Randy was just there to support his friend.
The only reason police even responded was a group from a church field trip was leaving the parking lot and someone saw the argument and called police.
