As 70s crooner Barry Manilow sang the lyrics “When can I touch you …” Monday night at the Hollywood Bowl, thousands of middle aged women screamed.
Barry responded with: “At the Hollywood Bowl?”
“I still got it!” the 69-year-old proclaimed!
And indeed he does.

The man who delivered hit after hit with songs like “Mandy,” “I Write The Songs,” and “Even Now,” entertained a crowd of thousands for the outdoor amphitheater’s Fourth of July Spectacular with the remarkable LA Philharmonic. And, RumorFix was there.
The evening began as it always does at the Bowl with the” Star Spangled Banner” — but as we all sang “the rockets red glare,” the LA night sky was filled with fireworks.
The Philharmonic led by Sarah Hicks then did a medley of military anthems and asked veterans to stand as they heard their theme songs. It was a fitting tribute to our heroes.
Then Barry took the stage.
“I was the Justin Bieber of the 70s,” Barry joked, reminding us that he had five number one hits on his Even Now album. By the way, in 1978 Barry had five albums on the top of the charts — something that’s only been accomplished by three people: Barry, Bruce Springsteen and Frank Sinatra.
Barry sang all the crowd favorites, “It’s A Miracle,” “Could It Be Magic,” “Somewhere In The Night,” “Looks Like We Made It,” and “Can’t Smile.”
The entertainer even danced a bit during “New York City Rhythm,” asking his fanilows, “Should I go on Dancing with the Stars?”
Barry knows his audience well: ladies of a certain age, who love romance.
So he had a message for their dates, “For you gentlemen who were dragged here — you will thank me in the morning about this one.” And, with that he performed one of his best ballads, “Weekend In New England.”
Barry has two more shows at the Bowl, Tuesday and Wednesday. Two things are guaranteed: you will have a smile on your face and come out of the venue humming the songs!
