“Gone with the Wind” Star Ann Rutherford Dead At 94

True

Gone with the Wind star Ann Rutherford has died at the age of 94. The Canada-born actress, who had been suffering with heart problems in recent years, passed away on Monday at her home in Beverly Hills, California, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Rutherford starred in a series of westerns with a young John Wayne before landing a contract with MGM Studios and appearing in films such as A Christmas Carol and Pride and Prejudice in 1940.

Rutherford was also known for her portrayal of Polly Benedict in movie legend Mickey Rooney’s Andy Hardy film series in the late 1930s. However, she will perhaps be best remembered as the demure Careen, the younger sister of lead character Scarlett O’Hara in the classic 1939 movie adaptation of Gone with the Wind.

The film won eight Academy Awards and has since gone on to receive a further two honorary Oscars.

Flowers have been placed on her stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Rutherford is one of the few celebrities to have two Walk of Fame honors – one for her movie career and another for her television successes.

So sad. I miss the quality actors from her day. She had true beauty and grace. Calling all quality actors in the world: Where are you hiding? Where are the class acts?

i too loved the old movies when stars were really stars. Thank god for Turner Classic movies station where one can see the old movies, get good info on the stars and why they did a certain movie and how it changed their careers etc. It is sad that there is nothing for our younger people today to truly enjoy without the enhancement of technology and stars being made overnight without any dues being paid. If Lindsay Lohan is an example of a “star” well that is more than sad. We do have some awesome actors but none that will ever reach the heights of real stars from the Golden Era. One other thing about Lohan, her playing Liz Taylor is an abomination.

i agree too. “stars” these days are all about the fame, the money, the parties, the DRUGS. whatevr happened to acting being about ACTING? everything is a publicity stunt. we have 19 year olds getting arrested and doing drugs because they think “i’m famous, i’m above the law” the day of quality/classy actors is a dying one. i hope some young hopefuls get discovered soon and bring back what we have been missing for decades. true hollywood class and beauty
