A memorial service was held Monday morning to honor Family Feud host Richard Dawson with the love of family, the laughter of friends and the beauty of wildlife, RumorFix is reporting exclusively.
Before the services began at 11 a.m. a dozen doves were released outside the chapel at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary, Marilyn Monroe’s final resting place.
Richard’s wife, daughter, sons and grandchild all spoke. Along with the only surviving cast member of Hogan’s Heroes, 84-year-old Robert Clary.
Fellow game show host Wink Martindale also eulogized his friend by joking about Richard’s failed game shows before he hit the jackpot with Family Feud.
The first was How’s Your Mother In Law? Richard was one of the celebrity comics who served as defense attorney for three women, who were trying to convince a jury of five single men and five single women that they would be the best mother-in-law.
“You’ve heard shows getting a thirteen week run – I think How’s Your Mother-In-Law? lasted about 13 minutes,” Wink joked.
Wink later hosted Can You Top This? and Richard along with legends like Jack Benny and Milton Berle would stand up and tell a joke in the same category to see who would get a bigger laugh.
Richard left the show early to star in Hogan’s Heroes and later host Family Feud. “Richard Dawson proved to be one of the funniest and acclaimed hosts of all time,” said Wink.
After the service, a dozen butterflies were set free outside the chapel.
Richard Dawson died at the age of 79 from complications related to cancer.
