Phillip Phillips is the fifth white guy with a guitar to win American Idol.

David Cook started the trend in 2008, then Kris Allen won the big prize beating out Adam Lambert. The next year, Lee DeWyze strummed his guitar to win Idol.

And then country singer Scott McCreery came home the winner last year.

The trend isn’t lost on Phillip, who told Access Hollywood Live, “I feel like I’m different than the other guys. I don’t really just play the regular chords. I like doing something different with the guitar and different with the music. I hope the people enjoy it.”

      Yes! He IS different! IMO he’s a true artist/musician! Jessica has an amazing voice, an is in an entire different class than P.P, but it’s America’s choice. So, yeah, I could predict it too! What does being white have anything to do with it? Why can’t people just be happy for the guy and say ‘congratulations’!

      Way to go PP, you worked hard, preformed great and deserved it! Can’t wait to hear what your future music will sound like!

He feels he is on top of the other four. You are not close to David Cook.
