The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office has officially ruled Junior Seau’s death a suicide, RumorFix has confirmed.
The coroner’s office is waiting for Seau’s family to decide whether the long-time San Diego Charger will also undergo brain testing for repetitive injury by researchers outside of the office. Former NFL player Dave Duerson shot himself in the chest last year, requesting his brain be donated to research. Months after Duerson’s death, researchers confirmed he suffered from a neurodegenerative disease linked to concussions.
The 43-year-old Oceanside, California resident died Wednesday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, says the coroner. The final medical examiner’s report may take 90 days to complete.
