President Obama may have his hands full with that whole 2012 reelection thing, but that’s not stopping the leader of the free world from dabbling in pop culture universe — more specifically, hip-hop culture.
At a recent fundraiser event in New York City, President Obama was asked by a journalist if he preferred Jay-Z or Kanye West. His answer should come as no to surprise to people who listen to Jay-Z who often boasts about his friendship with the President, “Jay-Z,” Obama replied.
“Although I like Kanye,” he continued. “He’s a Chicago guy. Smart. He’s very talented.”
That’s a much more thoughtful tone than the one the President displayed back in 2009 after Kanye infamously interupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards. “The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person. She’s getting her award. What’s he doing up there? He’s a jackass,” the President said at the time, which the reporter reminded him of during the brief interview.
“Even though you called him a jackass?” the reporter presses. “He is a jackass,” Obama says, “But he’s talented.”
Now there’s something that both Republicans and Democrats can agree on.
