Nicki Minaj is well known for her controversial performances as an artist, but the 29-year-old rapper is not happy about M.I.A.’s finger flipping at the Super Bowl.

The hip hop superstar called in to Ryan Seacrest’s radio show Monday morning to express her disappointment in the scandalous moment.

Having the utmost respect for Madge, Nicki tells Seacrest she felt disappointed in M.I.A.’s act. “My first feeling was disappointment, only because of my respect for Madonna. I’m a coocoo lady too, but I’d never be able to do it off the strength of Madonna. I just hope they don’t penalize Madonna.”

Then she went on to add, “Madonna knows the artist that MIA is, and it was Madonna’s decision to take that risk with all of us. She’s [Madonna] done some crazy things becoming the icon that she is so that’s why she was able to forgive MIA. I love MIA. But me personally I wouldn’t do it off respect of Madonna, because I wouldn’t want any backlash on her.”
