Is Rebecca Black being homeschooled because of bullying? That’s the rumor being reported online after the YouTube sensation told ABC News she dropped out of school because kids were making fun of her voice and infamous music video for “Friday.”
“When I walk by they’ll start singing ‘Friday’ in a really nasally voice … Or, you know, they’ll be like, ‘Oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?” she explained.
Still, the singer says there’s more to the story than just bullying, and she’s accusing ABC News of leaving out the main reason she dropped out of school. The singer says in a statement:
“Hey guys! So, Nightline didn’t tell the whole story about why I decided to be home schooled. Although the bullying was one reason I left school, the MAIN reason was that my school has a policy that missing school because of work would be unexcused, so I entered a California online high school for performers and athletes to get credit for work they do at home or on the road. Bottom line, I can’t follow my dreams while going to a normal school. It’s just not possible in my school district.”
Darn! Why can’t school districts make it easier for children to work full time and go to school too? Just imagine how many more versions of “Friday” we’d have!
