Lady Gaga and Bette Midler are making up after Midler slammed the pop singer for “stealing” her mermaid in a wheelchair routine. Last week, Midler went on a Twitter rant about Gaga using the shtick during a concert in Australia.
“I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people — and many of them are still alive.”
“Dear @ladygaga, if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it’s because it is! You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it.”
After learning that Midler was disgruntled, Gaga told Access Hollywood she had no idea Midler had done the routine, but loved the icon regardless of her Twitter rant. “I’m a huge Bette Midler fan. Maybe we’re just cut from the same cloth. I couldn’t hop around in that tail so I just stuck myself in a wheelchair. All I’ll say is that I admire her and find her to be one of the most brilliant and incredible performers, so that’s all I’ll say.”
Way to take the high road Gaga, and it looks like Midler is now following suit. On Wednesday, she wrote on Twitter:
“Gaga, what got you where you are: your wonderful voice, ability on piano and writing great hooky tunes that the whole world wants to dance to, will never let you down. The rest is icing.Treat it as such.”
She added that the two should get drinks.
